Scarifying removes excessive clippings, thatch and other organic materials, helping to keep the grass roots of your pitch or field strong and healthy.
This assists your turf with resilience to weeds and pests; and keeps it in great condition.
The main reasons to Scarify your sports field include:
- Excessive thatch levels make it difficult for water, fertiliser and pesticides to reach the soil;
- When "thatchy" turf dries out it is very difficult for the water to infiltrate into the canopy and reach the soil, thus creating hydrophobic soils;
- When the thatch layer is high, the crown has the potential to be elevated, resulting in scalping during mowing;
- The "thatchy" area is ideal for pathogens to thrive. When the grass is stressed the likelihood of diseases increases.
